Francis Bacon: A Centenary Retrospective

Location

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Nearly a century ago, Francis Bacon was born in Dublin, Ireland. Well before his death in 1992, he had been canonized by the art world; his permanent place in art history is more or less guaranteed. Yet New York has had to wait two decades since the last Bacon exhibition to rival the retrospective now showing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Visitors to the Met's Francis Bacon: A Centenary Retrospective will survey the master's career through sixty five paintings, which are supplemented by an equal number of archival items that provide further insight into his creative process than previous exhibitions have. The fleshy ghosts of Francis Bacon, given greater context with these materials, can only haunt us more through these tangible connections.

Francis Bacon: A Centenary Retrospective is up until the 16th of August. For details and images, visit http://www.metmuseum.org/special.
