Scrupulous research concluded, it has been determined by a panel of experts led by myself that the right price for the cheapest brew is $1.50. At fancy Sycamore in Ditmas Park, such is indeed the Happy Hour price (sort of… for some). At for-real Denny’s Steak Pub, it is the standard price, and the appropriate price.

I will not pay $4. I will not pay $6. I will drink a beer for $5 if I don’t have to pay for it. I’m not being particular or persnickety, I’m just voicing the views of the common man and the common loafer and the common miser and everyone I have ever impersonated.

$1.50 beers would have me freely spending all day long, dancing on the bar stool, and crying for my mother.
