And I just yawned.

Below is the just-released trailer for the new Nightmare On Elm Street, starring the talented Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen). Granted, I’m not much of a fan of this franchise, but this doesn’t look to win me over. It suggests that, after the initial inspired casting, a number of modern-horror-movie missteps have been committed here.

Do I need to explain what’s wrong with this picture? Watch & decide for yourself…

Yawns are contagious, after all.

I'm a huge Freddy fan. I've been watching the Nightmare movies religiously since the age of ten.

Sixteen years later, I see this.

Wow.

I don't know when my head will stop shaking in disappointment and disbelief.

Remakes call for innovation. This, however, is the most bland rehashing I've seen in years.

Freddy Krueger was burned to death for killing children.

Michael Bay should be punished for attempting to kill part of my childhood.

Wow.

(continues to shake head...)

The main problem is...

When every single shot looks like a postcard, a horror movie will always feel safe.  There's no danger here.  It looks like someone slapped blue tones over a Target commercial.  This is the in-house style of Platinum Dunes, which yes, is Michael Bay's horror production company.  They may be able to get these movies made, but so far they have not been able to make them scary.

Sorry if I was the bearer of bad tidings here.

Not at all...

If anything, you made it easier to deal with the disappointment by criticizing it before I saw it. Thanks.
