Four new releases, each one targeting a different audience, show their way into multiplexes this weekend. None of them, however, have any hopes of dethroning “Alice in Wonderland” from number. Based on the strength of “Alice,” the box office should once again have a comfortable lead over 2009.
I've recently started doing an ab routine regularly and I can already see a difference! The key to great abs isn't sit ups and crunches, it has to do with your core as a whole and strengthening it in other ways than many people are used to. This is the first segment in how to really strengthen your abs and your core.
The Feminist Press is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and is hosting a party at Joe's Pub with the likes of performance artist Karen Finlay, Sapphire who wrote Push which became the movie Precious, Elizabeth Streb who seeks to break the rules of dance and emcc Justice Bond. The Feminist Press is nonprofit housed in the City University of New York graduation center in midtown. It promotes freedom of expression and social justice, was founded in 1970 and they began by rescuing lost works by writers such as Harlem Ranaissance writer, Zora Neal Hurston and Charlotte Perkins Gilman
I came across a site that aggregates the top 10 of something or other. This list caught my attention - the 8 unconventional ways to be buried. If you are nonplussed by the cemetry plot or the urn for the mantel, try shooting your loved one into other space in a rocket, turning them into a biodegradable brown sludge, shaping them into a pencil or diamond or putting all that goodness into a reef ball and housing it in the ocean blue. For the morbidly curious check the link
Tim Burton’s new version of “Alice in Wonderland” is indeed filled with wonder. This phrase gets tossed around often, but, like “Avatar,” a whole new world is created here, and each frame is filled with a dozen surprises. Burton has always been a director obsessed with visual invention, and in his creation of Wonderland (or Underland, as the movie calls it), his imagination runs unrestrained. And with Johnny Depp as The mad Hatter, we are reminded that he and Burton form one of the greatest actor-director teams in cinematic history.
Burberry. Now, this is one of those stores that when I go shopping (on Broadway that is, but I can’t help but meander towards West Broadway) I usually try to gauge if it’s the perfect timing to slip in and be perfectly ignored without feeling snubbed. And absorb all that plaid. (I know, it's so much more than plaid!) Not to mention that I adore Burberry perfumes.
Chanel. My memory of Chanel resembles memories of art openings at galleries where there’s a wine reception. I took in the art. Even just the store, which I had never been into before (nerves, intimidation, timing) orients itself to a gallery rather than a store. Certain square pods exhibit clothing in a way that includes very few racks to peruse for your size. And there were very few people lounging about trying on shoes.&
The biggest challenge facing gay rights today is not legal or religious opposition, but rather a lack of understanding about the gay community. I do not mean that to be insulting; I’m only making an accurate statement. A disproportionately large number of people have seriously misconceived views on homosexuality and the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer) population in general, and it is not exactly though their own doing.
Elia Tahari. I love Tahari. Details, details, details. And suits. It all started when I graduated from college and my mom basically took me to Macy’s and picked out all the best suits and pretty much told me to welcome the real world with a good suit. Preferably Tahari. And lo and behold, it fit.
Wheatgrass is specifically young grass in the common wheat plant and is usually juiced or even dried into powder for consumption. Yes, wheatgrass is grass and therefore does not taste wonderfully, but it comes with so many benefits that it really makes it worth the unpleasant taste.
So. Lately, we’ve been having some outrageously nice weather for March, which happened last year too but after all this snow it’s certainly a tease. Now just rewind in your mind to September, and those first inklings of fall, when the leggings are starting to come out with those summer wedges and jackets…
Just as in The Bible, David defeated Goliath. “The Hurt Locker,” a low-budget Iraq War thriller, reined champion at the 82nd Academy Awards, winning six Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director. It was the battle of the exes, and Kathryn Bigelow (shown below) topped former hubby James Cameron to become the first woman EVER to win Best Director. It was a night to remember: “Avatar,” the most popular movie of all time, lost the top prizes to an indie film almost no one saw.
