The Bill of Rights is lying dead right here...
Iman Talib Adbul Rasheed, President of Islamic Leadership Council, said The Bill of Rights is lying dead right here pointing to a symbolic coffin, drapped with the American flag with the Bill of Rights in bold letters on the side. This was at a press conference with 15 civil rights groups protesting the vote by the House of Representatives passing the National Defense Authorization Act. The bill authorizes more government spending on defense but tucked in the bill are draconian measures that extends the reach of detention to include US citizens arrested in their own country, without fair trial and allowing the military to act on US to arrest Americans, thus violating the First and Fourth Amendment of the Bill of Rights and violating Habaes Corpus and Posse Comitatus Act. The Justice Department hates it, as does the CIA, the FBI and it places more powers under Executive Order. Protestors foresee a future of Marshall law, and see it as a way to quash dissent. A very American tradition that is revered worldwide. The bill has to be passed by the Senate and the President but the President has said he won't veto the bill. Good job Congress, and Mr. President!
