Getting Things For Free, Vol. 12: Free Pizza for Your Attraction

You can’t always expect to get free pizza slices from hot chicks/smooth operators/young bucks. But sometimes, just sometimes, if you’re poor and sad, sympathetic and cold, walking together, enjoying the moonlight, the conversation, the promise of a better tomorrow, you can ask or indirectly ask or politely importune or jokily request or be happily, surprisingly gifted with a beautiful, greasy slab of cheese and dough. Free Pizza: Priceless. Hot Pizza Purchaser: Likewise?

Getting Things For Free, Vol. 10: Potato Chips For Your Begging

Late night, commiserating with your fellows over drinks and abandoned dreams at a bar with an early 00s barkeep and early 20s lassie. It’s a hard night, a long night, a night with nothing good in store and a long train ride home. Do you leave bereft, hungry and defeated? Do you buy a bag of chips behind the bar and chew them sullenly? Or do you sullenly chew your chips, having gotten them for free? Yes. There’s really no art to it and there’s never a guarantee but if you want free chips on a bad night at a bar, just BEG and sometimes they give them to you.

Getting Things For Free, Vol. 9: Beer and Whiskey For Your Hosting

Host a trivia night at your local bar and you too may be eligible for one, no two shiny glasses of white beer in pint glass and whiskey-and-sour-mix in highball glass to say nothing of the accompanying cherries and refills on drinks and cherries. It’s all in the hosting… and the attitude… and the luck… and the begging.

Did you know that you can get free drinks when you are performing at a venue which sells them? Yes. But did you also know that sometimes you can get hot alcoholic drinks, like apple cider with whiskey and a cinnamon stick? Did you know that it comes in a mug? That it might have cost you something like $6, maybe more? Did you know that other free drinkers (having had performed) can drink beer, rum and cokes and cider, as well? All these free, disparate drinks can yours! All you have to do is perform at a bar with a bartender who honors your commitment to entertainment.

Earthquake Polverized Already Pauperized Haiti

Talk about being kicked while down.

Around 5pm yesterday (1/12/10) an Earthquake with a 7.0 magnitude devastated an already "crestfallen" community of Port-Au-Prince.

President Obama came to the rescue informing Haiti via talking to other Americans who then told reporters that he will be sending his thoughts and prayers.

Haitian's living in New York (and other less important states) must wait until telecommunication is back up and running in their homeland before they can hear from their loved ones.

Getting Things For Free, Vol. 2: Mystery Shots for Your Time/Femaleness

There are many meticulous, highly structured, densely difficult ways to get free drinks, if you’re a girl and you are alone. Smiling and hanging out with your benefactors is not one of them. To get free drinks as a lass among lads, I suggest doing whatever you have to do to make yourself feel young again. I have seen eyes bat, hair tossed—but mostly in movies.

Shadow of its Former Self

Shivering in the cold compared to its former incarnation (Galapagos—the place, the people, the décor, the attitude (!) moved to Dumbo), Public Assembly is a drab, bloodless, Manhattan-y structure (well, in spirit if not in its ramshackle warehouse space) on one of the cheesiest of Bedford L-proximate streets. It’s like a slightly grimier Meatpacking District over here.

However, on the plus side, some shows are free, some crowds are sparse (Good?
