I remember precisely where I was when I first found out about "this guy in Red Hook that makes key lime pie and key lime pie only:" I was driving through Tarrytown on a Sunday evening on my way to Blue Hill Stone Barns, but that is another meal for another day. According to the legend I was hearing, what I later found out to be Steve's Authentic Key Lime Pie was this: one guy out on the pier in Red Hook that was only open at certain times, that those times were not set, announced, or posted anywhere, and that the pie was stellar. With that, my infatuation began.
I'm not a foodie, but I am from North Florida and if there is one thing I know, it's "authentic" Southern cooking done well. By done well I mean unpretentious, non-health conscious and served with all the right side items. "Authentic" Southern is what I found at The Brooklyn Star on Havemeyer Street in Brooklyn.
