A friend of mine recently told me about a lap dancing class she took at S Factor. We discussed it for awhile and she asked if I wanted to join her at the Introduction to Pole Dancing at the same spot. I figured I should live a little, so off we went to the S Factor to try it out.

My friend’s descriptions had calmed my nerves slightly. I knew there were no men in the classes and no mirrors around so I figured I was safe from witnessing my own humiliation. S Factor is a fitness class/movement for women only that claims it is empowering so I was hoping no one in the class would laugh when I fell on my butt. It turned out even better than I had hoped.

After signing a waiver, fifteen apprehensive ladies were led back to Studio B. Studio B had about 5 poles in a circle throughout the room. The room was decorated with a couple of comfy chairs, a bench and a stereo system. The room was nicely lit, with red scarves covering lights for low light. Fake candles were scattered throughout the edges of the room for added mood lighting. There were mats on the floor, scattered in two large circles.

There were two instructors and the first forty-five minutes of the two hour class were spent on the mats stretching, doing yoga type strength moves and working on abs. The entire time the instructor kept telling everyone how fabulous they were. After that, we all learned the S walk, a sexy walk that focuses your leg and ab muscles. After this the instructors taught us a pole trick called the firefly. I watched them do it and thought I would never pull it off. But, surprisingly, after several failed attempts, I did it and I thought it was pretty darn fun!

To conclude the class the instructors taught us part of the S factor dance and then they performed for us and showed us some amazing moves on the pole that REALLY impressed me. All in all, I had a great time. I can see why stars like Kate Hudson and Teri Hatcher work out with this method. The two hours went by really fast and I woke up with sore muscles and bruises from the pole. I could definitely see myself enrolling in their eight week class once I save up my money.
