One day away from the new Wolfman movie. You can’t see me right now, but I’m grinning.

If you know me even a little, you know how much I love a good werewolf story. Since those are so hard to find, I’ve even settled for plenty of bad ones. I’ve watched more werewolf movies than anyone you know. It’s an obscure claim to fame, but it’s mine and there's a certain pride in it. I’m not sure there isn’t a movie that wouldn’t be improved by adding a werewolf. I’m kidding (a little), but the werewolf is one of humanity’s oldest and most telling myths and I remain captivated. I’ve drawn pictures of werewolves since I was a little kid, I made a rudimentary high school werewolf short film in college, and I’ve been finding internet space here and there to write about the subject ever since I started writing for the web. I love monsters and werewolves are easily my favorite kind of monsters.

Folks, this is my Avatar.  You can keep yours.

Expect some new content on the subject over the next few days, but in the meanwhile let’s take another look at the collected archives:

WEREWOLVES, PART ONE.
Read this first. This article is my mission statement, explaining why werewolves have been so appealing to me and to all kinds of folks over the course of history. I also review the recent werewolf movie Skinwalkers and the terrific novel Sharp Teeth. Versions of this article appeared here on Mapcidy and on CHUD.

The Wolfman.
This is a review of the incredibly entertaining debut novel from Nicholas Pekearo. The book is now available in a cheap mass-market paperback edition, and I couldn’t recommend it any more highly to horror & mystery fans.

AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN REMAKE HELL.
Predictably, 1981’s An American Werewolf In London, written and directed by John Landis and featuring makeup effects by the legendary Rick Baker, is one of my very favorite movies. Predictably, I have an opinion or two about the possibility of a remake…

DOG SOLDIERS.
Dog Soldiers is a movie from the UK, where they know a bit about werewolves. It’s as good as any werewolf movie in the last ten years, although the competition is depressingly weak. I really like it, so it’s got that going for it.

New WOLFMAN Trailer!
When I saw one of the trailers for The Wolfman 2010, I started using exclamation points in my headlines.

New WOLFMAN Poster!
See what I mean?

CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF
You can find my thoughts on the old Oliver Reed werewolf movie Curse Of The Werewolf halfway down the page in my essay on Hammer horror films.  Unfortunately for me but fortunately for you, my article is way more entertaining than the movie.

HOMBRE LOBO.
My album review of the most recent Eels album explores the werewolf connection suggested by the album’s title.

Okay, that’s enough reading for now. Look forward to my reaction to the new Wolfman this weekend.

Now here’s where you can look at many of my werewolf drawings…

Here’s where you can find plenty of werewolf references both subtle and obvious…

And the movie theater is where you can find me tomorrow. (No doubt I’ll be howling at the moon by nightfall.)
